We were overjoyed to be a part of Shauna and Lars’ elegantly beautiful wedding and reception at the New Orleans Museum of Art! From the flowers to the decor, their day was a truly stunning experience, and Art De Vie Photography captured every moment!
Shauna and her mother called me one afternoon after receiving my name from a friend of theirs who is a professional photographer that I have worked with for many years. We instantly had a connection. I loved her ideas and that she wanted to make sure this event was about her and Lars. I loved that she didn’t want to copy her sister’s wedding and that she wanted to embrace the New Orleans traditions.
Is there anything sweeter than a first look?
Shauna and Lars certainly bring a wonderful balance to each other! They are both always on the go, but when it was time to focus on each other, they certainly made sure that was the priority. There were never fights, only compromises, when making decisions about the wedding.
As a planner who has been in this business for nearly 20 years, I have seen couples fight about things to the extreme. Even though they both felt strongly, they both knew that the most important thing was that they would be married, and this was simply one day in their lives.
Florist Jill Mercer created Shauna’s stunning bouquet, as well as the floral arrangements that decorated the NOMA Sculpture Garden where the ceremony was held. Shauna wanted a very dramatic look, so we came up with a spiral ceremony design to give her the drama of a long aisle where she could pass all of her guests. We also brought in a custom floor for the ceremony that was created by New Orleans Candlelight Decor.
The New Orleans Museum of Art was an elegant reception venue! We designed the entire wedding around Distressed Rentals’ Sazerac Sofa. It is this amazing coral red, and Shauna wanted to carry the color in as many ways as we could. The idea was to color-match carpet to create a runner, but the color was almost impossible to match. So the next step was to make it!
We ordered 51 feet of the material, and I had our seamstress create it. The carpet led from the front doors to a custom bourbon bar. The couple enjoyed their first dance to Van Morrison’s “Into the Mystic,” while the bride and her father danced to “Harvest Moon,” and the groom and his mother danced to “You’ll Be In My Heart.”
Shauna and Lars had a traditional Norwegian cake as the groom’s cake, and the couple used love spoons that have been in Lars’ family for more than 100 years for their first bite.
Shauna and Lars hand-selected bourbons and created specialty drinks that were only served at that bar. At the end of the night, everyone was given a custom to-go cup, and we loaded the buses to head to Canal Street via police escorts. Once we got there, we took over Canal Street in true New Orleans fashion and second-lined to the JW Marriott.
Their wedding day was a beautiful celebration to mark the start of their lives together, and we were honored to be a part of it!
